Dr. Phillip B. Shamas, Ed.D, was born in Roswell, New Mexico.
He earned his Bachelors’ degree in University Studies and went on to earn a Master’s in Elementary Education and Administration at the University of New Mexico. He has held many positions in education. Over a period of 27 years he has taught bilingual classes, TESOL, and science lab, Assistant Principal, Principal, Instructional Coach, and mentor to beginning teachers.
In addition to his scholastic career, he has worked in banking, for AT&T/Bell System as a telephone operator, and later for the new AT&T as a customer service agent. He has owned two restaurants, served as chef for a few others, and loves cooking and developing new recipes.
Phillip was married for 12 years and has five children living in New Mexico, ranging from ages 32 to 42. He has grandchildren and even great grandchildren. He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he “came out”and was instrumental in starting Gay Liberation at UNM in the 70’s. He lost many friends due to AIDS and remembers them on a daily basis, particularly four who worked together with him towards acceptance of the GLBTQ+ Community. Phillip has recently taken a break from working to pursue other avenues and is currently working on a book to be hopefully published by the end of the year.
